I want to pay for my grandaughter's college tuition. Her parents claim
Her as a dependent.Would I be able to get a tax deduction? Frank

Negative; to claim the deduction or education credit, YOU must claim the grand-daughter as a dependent.

To claim her as a dependent, you must provide more than HALF of her total support.

There is a bright side: paying her tuition does NOT invoke any gift tax issues, provided you pay the tuition directly to the university.
