I have a toyota 1997 camry. It turns on fine, but it seems to be stuck in the park position. I could move the shift lever into gear from park, drive, neutral, reverser etc... but it does not engage in the selected gear. I basically move it shift up and down and it just slides, I could even turn on the car when the level is on any of the selected gears. PLEASE HELP and tips and advise would be great, since I can't drive it anywhere.

That sounds like the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift handle.
Remove the plate (carefully) that surrounds the shifter and look inside for a loose cable near the base of the shift handle.
