One of my friends was thinking about starting their own business but didn't know how to go about doing it. Now, I didn't know what to tell her so I thought I would come here :-)

What type of business does she want to start ? Answers are based on this, every business is different. Businesses with no inventory, or with inventory to give an example. Is she interested in starting an on line business ? On line business offer their own pros and cons as well.

Does she have any type of business plan ? Does she know where she will get her start up money ?

She said she wants to start either a art business (like she draw/paints pictures for people) Like if they bring in a photo she will draw it and sell it to them. Then she said she was thinking about starting a clothes business. Selling clothes.

I think she was saying somethig about getting a loan to start up

She could do the art business out of her home; if she doesn't mind that. Some people might, but then there would be no overhead costs, as in renting a storefront and working from there. More money to borrow and a stated amount to keep up every month as in rental, advertising, etc. Same if she started a clothing business.

I don't know where she is located but banks are not funding small business loans anymore unless it is viable situation. A well established franchise is a viable situation.

She has to get her ducks in a row and absolutely decide on which way she wants to go. Working out of home sometimes is not a good idea unless you are super disciplined and can focus on just one thing instead of like doing housework while waiting for someone to show up for an appt. A set business time working out of home is absolutely necessary for success.
