My kitten is 12 weeks old... still nursing. Mom is 4 yrs old. Dad is just over 1 yr. It will cost $400 to spay Mom. I can't afford that. I thought nursing might slow her down from going into heat again. Apparently, it makes no difference. Kitten wants to nurse and Mom lets him. He's eating canned food and dry. I bought kitten chow, and they all ate it. HOW do I get him weaned? Mom looks exhausted.

It shouldn't cost that much to spay the mother. My expensive vet would charge $150; my cheap vet charges $75 or less -- does it on a sliding scale. Call other vets, and check at an area animal shelter to find the name of a vet who will do the spaying at a low cost.

Mom cat will kick the kitten away and refuse to nurse when she's sick of it.
