Is your spouse giving you money toward the house? Just remember if you put him/her on the title they will automatically own half of the home. Are they paying you half the value of the house? Personally no matter how much I loved someone, unless they were willing to put in as much equity as I have, I wouldn't be signing over half the ownership of my home.

If you choose to place your spouse on the title and you hold a mortgage, you need to change the mortgage debt to extend to both of you as well as the tax debt.

If you simply want to ensure your spouse will inherit the home if something should happen to you, make out a will and leave them the house.
