My house is forty years old. Didn't hook up to sewer when area was annexed. Have paid fees to city. Was told that all I need to do is call plumber. Want to do it myself. Have called city and asked them to come out and mark lines so I would know where to tie in. no response in 3 weeks. Is there any other way to find tie in location and instructions or videos on materials and do it yourself installation?

I do not know how it works in Fayetville, NC. but in my area, it is not City's responsibility to come over to your house and to tell you where the Sewer line is. You will have to do some footwork to get that information...

First, look at the curb. Some cites mark letter "S" into the curb. That indicates where sewer lateral enters your property.

However, your best bet will be to go down to the Department of Street Maintenance and to look at the City Sewer blueprint. It will tell you exactly where the lateral enters your property. Also, it will tell you how deep it is. You don't pay for this information.

DIY: you can certainly do it yourself if you are handy and if you are not afraid to get your hand dirty. Expect to dig very deep, sometimes over 8' to reach the lateral at the curb.

There is a certain way as to how to abandon your old septic. It is important that you follow these instructions. The pipe installation itself is not complicated. Once you are finished with trench excavation, come back and one of us will lead you through the process.

Let me know how you did... Milo
