I believe that the word GOD was originally Hebrew, and as such it was spelt as JVWH or hebrew equivalent.
Ive also just read in Hebrew it was EL

Yes the Hebrew word for God is El (probably meaning strong one, mighty one and is used with reference to Yahweh, other gods and to men) but it is completely different to the word YHWH which is the divine name, just as the name Jesus is different to King.
