This movie involves a post world wide nuclear war. There was a submarine crew going around trying to find survivors. They eventually end up in Alaska in an scientific exploration outpost. This was also a safe zone where no radiation will fall. The outpost is made up of women and men scientist, doctors, engineers etc. and they soon realize that they will have to start repopulating the world. I also remember that one of the men had to walk from Alaska to New York city because it was the only place that some sort of a distress call was coming from by a radio transmitter. He was the only one capable of doing the journey and had to leave his wife. He does return after several years. The distress call was only a wire sparking.

If your description is off a bit, it might be On the Beach (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053137/). It was remade in 2000 On the Beach (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0219224/). Otherwise do you have any more info? When was it made approximately?

Hi Quinn F, I remember On The Beach and it is similar to the one I described. I may be wrong about the submarine, it might have been a ship or I am mixing that part of the two movies. I am very sure about this taking place in nort america and the one guy did take a journey by foot to look for the signal , or possibly disarm a dooms day device in a major city such as New York. The part I am very sure about is the outpost and the community of scientist etc. There is one more thing about the need to start repopulating again. They needed to protect the women to raise the future generation. They all agreed that the gene pool should be varied as much as possible. Therefore each woman would have children from as many different men as possible. In the end the one guy does return to his wife after several years. One of my friends at work also saw this movie, he thinks between 1960& 1975. Hope this helps
