Now there is a white line under it's knee bend on it's hind leg and when she walks she drags it or walks on the TOP of the foot or on her toenails. The vet said that the line comes only from prolonged wrapping and that probably the dog's leg will need amputation unless I massage all night and hope that by tomorrow, she'll get her feeling back and walk properly. She is letting me massage her, no fuss, no pain, no yelps, no trying to nip at me (she's 4 1/2 mos). She's just laying there. I've tried to see how she walks on it, but no change. Any advice?

Massage in this case is getting the blood to flow in and out of the leg. That will take some work. I'd also try to get the dog to drink as much water as he can. That will help raise the blood pressure. Try not to massage the band because that's where the vessels are damaged. Get as close as you can. Draw the blood to the band. Skip over the band, draw it down the leg, back up the leg, stop and the band, and continue on the other side. Move the leg gently.

Although I THINK it would be helpful, I don't know if it's possible to support the dog with a sling over/in water and allow her and you to move the leg under nearly weightless conditions.

Good luck and this is going to to be a tough call.

Think of what's it's like when you have a charly hourse. You know you have to move the leg and it's going to hurt when you do.

Do you have a "vibrator"? It might help too.
