Have a 10 year old unit that is 12 seer -- just took a lightening strick last week burned up ciruit board, fan outside will not run, the company is telling me that the condenser and the whole unit is dead-- and I have 2 choices. #1 Replace the Circuit board, Condenser, and new Cooling Coil due to new refrigerent laws, or #2 new Amana 16 seer unit- that replaces the furnace, coil, and condenser and bypasses the circuit board-- quote was $11,000 I almost faited! HELP!! I know nothing about this stuff!

If all you need is a control board, get it fix. If you need a compressor then maybe you want to get a new system. Why do you need a new furnace too?

The Control Board took a lightening strike and the condenser is"hotwired" as they stated-- to cool-- but the condenser keeps shorting out and blowing the breaker switch-- they ac guy said the whole unit needed to be replaced. I have 2 choices-- 1. get a 14 seer condenser unit, replace the coil so it can run on R-410 and be compatible with new unit and replace the circuit board-- about $7300. Or 2). Upgrade to 16 seer ASXC 160481 Amana unit, furnace, coil, and condenser and rather than circuit board-- not sure why I have to replace furnace. Quote is $9400.00 not 11,000 sorry.

I am not sure why it would short out, either it runs or it doesn't. Maybe you should get anouther company to check it. Is the circuit board that is bad inside or out? What state are you in? These seem like very high prices to me!
