I am trying to wire a 4 wire cooktop to a 3 wire feed from the house.
Wires from Cooktop; White, Black, Bare, Red
Wires from house; White, Black, Bare
Which wires should I connect to which?

You cannot wire this cooktop to this circuit.

What you have is a 240v circuit with no neutral. You need a 120/240v circuit with a white neutral.

There is one exception to this. Can you tell us what it says on the circuit cable?

There is one exception to this. Can you tell us what it says on the circuit cable? Yes, "E123775 8/2 WITH GROUND TYPE NM-B 600 VOLTS (UL) B. This was hooked up to a 240 cooktop. It broke and we were replacing it with a new one.

OK, that is "**/2" NM cable as I suspected.

You absolutely CANNOT use that cable for a 4-wire (120/240v) appliance.
That cable can be used for a 120v appliance, or a 240v appliance, ONLY.

You need to run a new circuit.

What if I have the same issue but my circuit cable says "E30445 (UL) AWG10 CU 2CDR WITH AWG 10 GROUND TYPE UF-B 600 VOLTS SUNLIGHT RESISTANT.

A #10-2 with ground cable can only be used for a 30 amp circuit either 120 or 240 volts, not for an appliance that needs both 120 and 240 volts, which requires a neutral that would be the white of a 4 wire cable.
