We are buying a mobile home in a land owned 55+ community. The home is a 1976 12' x 56' singlewide unit. We have been told that this unit cannot be transported to a different location, but must be demolished or torn down. We are in the process of buying a newer home to put in its' place but if we can't move it to a rental lot our plans for the newer unit will not be possible.

Who told you the unit can't be moved? I find no such Florida law. It could be a municipal law OR a law in your particular park.

There are companies in Florida that do nothing but move mobile homes.

Ask the person who gave you the info that it can't be moved to provide you with the law or regulation.

I just called this person and found out it's a Polk County Florida DOT law that 1977 or older cannot be transported on roadways legally. Thank you for your response.

By different location you obviously didn't mean another location within the same park. I just checked quickly and cannot find such a law. That doesn't mean there isn't such a law.

Call one of the companies that moves mobile homes and ask.

You may still find a "house mover" that can put it upon a different support system ( like they move a house)
And/ you can also request a waiver from the county after showing them documents that you would replace perhaps the axle and had it inspected and safe to move.

But you will need to get waivers and permits to move it
