I've been sleeping with earplugs for the past 6 months because my housemates are pretty loud. I haven't had any problems, but I was wondering if I might have any long-term sight effects because of it. My hearing is very good; I would hate to ruin it :)

By earplugs you mean like normal ear plugs right? No music coming from them?
If it's the no music sort of ear plug then it shouldn't be a problem. I suppose the worst that could happen is they can get stuck in your ears when you're sleeping. I don't think that I've ever heard of anyone getting cancer from using ear plugs if that's what you were worried about though. I mean think of all those construction workers who use them, they'd of notice by now (I hope) if they had some weird side effect.
If on the other hand you mean musical earplugs, it shouldn't be too bad for your hearing as long as the sounds at a normal level versus blowing your ear drum out.
Sound like you're roomies are real party animals. Good luck with your search for silence!

Thanks! Actually they are not that loud, I'm just too sensitive. If I go to bed at 4 am and they come down the stairs at 9am, I'll hear them and wake up... It's terrible but I guess I'm what they call a light sleeper.

I wear earplugs all day every day at work. Building airplanes and helicopters is a very loud business.
I've never heard of anyone having problems from sleeping with them in. They even sell them for nighttime.
