Hi, I had a power surge that blew my capacitor on my BRaun/Nutone vent fan. Nobody will sell me the capacitor, but for $129, they will all sell me a motor that I don't need. Anyone have tips on how to get just the capacitor? It bolts right on to the fan motor on the outside.

Fan model # is Nutone QTXEN150C

Capacitor is rectangular with two 1/4 inch prongs and a mounting clip in the middle.

VAC is 250
UF is 2.2

It is protected.

Any help would be great. Hard to believe braun/nutone would try and force me to buy a new motor instead of selling me a $10 part to fix it instead.

The 250 is not that important Just needs to be greater than 250 VAC and must be AC rated.

NuTone: Bath and Ventilation Fans, Central Vacuums, Door Chimes, Medicine Cabinets, Range Hoods (http://www.nutone.com) is usually really good with parts. I can't find your fan, but they suggest calling. Not a bad first choice.

The second choice is:

CeilingFanParts.com - Switchco Products - 3-Wire Capacitors (http://www.ceilingfanparts.com/images/capacitor3.htm)

There are two three-wire caps that have a 2.3uf section. You can use this, but you'll also have to find the clips. Soldering and crimping would work the best unless the wires are stranded, then crimping is OK. Just cap the other section and use he one closest in size.

There are a few here: Film | Digi-Key (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Cat=131088&k=2.2%20uf%20vac), but they would all require work. Solder wires, heat shrink, crimp, connectors etc.

And a few here: 2.2 uf vac (http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=2.2+uf+vac), but would require the same amt of work and minimum order requirements.

You may also have to find alternative mounting.

Here is a copy of the install pages and the parts list. The capacitor is not listed as a separate part so my next step would be to go to Radio Shack or whatever they are called now to see if they have a capacitor of a close enough value to
be able to be used. You might have to solder it in and it may not look exactly like the original but it will get you back in operation.

In my area there is a complete electronics repair parts distributer. Between them and Radio Shack I have always been able to find a part to bring all of my electronic toys back to proper operating condition. Happy hunting.
