My friend is a student at Detroit Medical Center School of Medical Technology. She has been trying to get a loan to cover the costs of living associated with this and has been unsuccessful. The main problem she is not actually enrolled at any university or college. Detroit Medical Center is not on any list of approved schools and it does not have a financial aid office like a college would have. However, it is still a school of medical technology.

If anyone has any ideas on where she might be able to get a loan, please let me know so that I can help her.

She can try for a grant, however, if the school is not accredited not only is she going to have a hard time getting money, but she may have a hard time getting a job once she graduates. Many compaines, hospitals, doctor's offices, etc look for their employees to have attended an accredited school.

It sounds from your post that this school is not accredited and she may need to look into a different school

The school is accredited for what she is going for. She has her degree from a respected university and is now just getting her certification, which is required to work in the field. She still has to study, take tests, go to lecture, all the normal school stuff.

The part where the school is not approved is based on the fact that it is not on the lists of universities that the student loan companies use to identify the school.

I know that she could just get a regular loan from a bank or credit union, but since it is still education I figured she should be able to find a student/education loan somewhere.

Has she filled out a FASFA? These are federally funded student loans with lower interest rates than banks or credit unions.

If the school does not accept the FASFA then I wonder how the school is accredited, as most accredited schools accept FASFA.
