How do I change my babies last name in Michigan and how expensive is it?

If your baby's last name is the legitimate father's last name, his name will still remain on the birth certificate and you will have to prove to a judge it is in the child's best interest for the name change. However, you don't say whose name you want to change it to, your own perhaps. There is a kit you can purchase from your local court office to make this happen, but it all depends whose name is on the birth certificate to start with. Sorry, can't tell you how much it will cost.

Why and to what are you changing it, also merely changing a name does not change custody or rights.

It is simple, the parents ( both) go in and sign a few forms, submit it to the clerk and (and here for about 200 bucks) it is changed
