I have been paying my rent every 2 weeks the contract stated in the beginning that it had to be paid on the first however he agreed to be paid every 2 weeks I have receipt when I went to pay rent for June he said I need to find a way to get caught up on my rent I was only good to the date on the check so the check said the 10 they arrived back from a trip on 13 I didn't have anymore money so I opted to move out I said before I take the first step how do I get my deposit back he said I wouldn't and he could float the check for 60 days until he saw how long it took him to rent the room an see the condition of the room the cleaning lady said she would tell the condition of the room because she was there when I finished moving out he said we could go round and round about the deposit I don't really have money for small claims court and my deposit is $525 I only make $1000.00 a month so I really need the money

[I've been pay rent every 2 weeks on a verbal agreement since 3/09 when I went to pay first half of June rent he said I would need to find some way to get caught up on the rent that I owed him on the first and I was only good to date on check I had only paid for time I stayed which was $250.00 half a month rent so I didn't have anymore money it was the 13 date on check was 10 my payday and they had been out of town I said before I take my first step how do I get my deposit back and he said you won't I will float that check for 60 days and see how long it taked me to rent the room out and see what condition the room is in the cleaning lady said she would tell how I left the room because she was there when I finished moving out

So was there a written lease for payment monthly, if so they were being nice and can change their vebal agreement, in fact if you just had a verbal agreement, they can within one pay period change the terms if they wanted to.
I would ask what type of trip, and was paying for it more important than paying your rent ?

If you were paying every other week and paying half the monthly rental then you should have been paid ahead, not behind.
If you moved out before the lease expired without a pay or quit notice, then you broke the lease and he's entitled to use the deposit for unpaid rental.
