I just bought an Intermatic In-wall timer (I1200). I installed it, properly ( I am 95% sure) and it powers on and off normally and in timer mode it turns the lights off, but not ON.

I went back to the store and they gave me a new one and I am having the same problem. So something seems to be wrong.

I have the black wire on the timer going to black wire in the wall, white to white, and red is connected to 2 black wires (which are twisted together) coming from the wall (the 2 chandeliers I presume).

If I am mixing up the 2 black wires, would the timer go on/off in manual mode and turn off under auto mode BUT not ON?

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Thanks!

BTW this is a new construction house.

Also want to mention that there is a green wire coming out of the wall too, but there is no green wire on the timer, so it is just sitting there not connected to anything.

The two black wires in the switch are more likely to be the hot and the single black the switch leg to the chandeliers. Reverse the red and black connections to the timer. Once the timer turns it self off, there is no power to make the timer run.
