Well first off I would say hold off on the sex until you heal. It will help the healing process go more smoothly.

It is mostly women that get a UTI during sex than men the bacteria travels a shorter distance in women than in men.

UTI's are not contagious it is mainly based off cleanliness. If the penis is dirty and you are having sex then there is a large chance bacteria particles will get into the bladder.

So just make sure if you do have sex, you make sure both of you are clean before and after. That will help prevent future situations like this to happen.
