Hello:
I have just had a new bathroom installed on my lower level (Hi Ranch). Two weird things are occurring:
1) When the shower upstairs or the washing machine run, water releases from the downstairs tub spout in spurts. Almost like there's some sort of backpressure in the system.

2) The water coming from the tub spout gets no hotter than luke warm. No problem with hot water if I turn the shower head on, and no problem with hot water in the sink within the same room.

Just wondering is these issues sound like something I can explore myself, or if I should hire a professional to come take a look.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I suggest that you call the original plumber back to check on these problems. He will know exactly where to look...

Hot water from the spout always seems to be a bit colder than from shower head. But still, let the plumber to check on it as well...

Forgot to mention that I have an old oil burner, probably original (circa 1970), that uses a coil to heat the hot water. I had a thought that maybe the water from the bathtub spout is coming out faster than the burner can heat it up, so I tried tweaking the valve to less than full open and sure enough, I have hot water from the spout and even hotter water from the shower head. I'm sure there are more efficient ways to enable the same effect but this is working for now... wife can give the baby a bath without waiting forever for the tub to fill via the shower head.

In regard to my other issue, I'm thinking I have some sort of cross-zoning going on. As suggested, I'll have to call the plumber on that one.
