Hello my names shannon and I live in Ohio,
Okay I have a boyfriend and he's from the United-Kingdom.
We've been dating well over two years and we just now finally had the money to see each other, I went to visit him but,the United-kingdom border agency wouldn't let me pass because we hadn't seen each other yet.I tried telling them on was on vacation but I guess it wasn't good enough, and they denied me simply cause I was too dependent on my boyfriend and I didn't have a bank account. It was complete hell.
Anyway me and my boyfriend might have to end up getting married,I was just wondering what are the rules/laws on people from different countries getting married??

Thanks for any and all help,

Shannon

The same as for people in that country. Both people have to produce proof they are free to marry, old enough and are not barred from marriage for any reason (blood relationship etc). After that, you arrange your church or registary office and get married.

I find it odd that the UK border people would cause any difficulties for an American visiting England on holiday. No-one expects an American to have an English bank account. Was there some other factor involved?

Actually it's not all that odd.
The UK has a growing issue with sham weddings/relationships purely for immigration purposes.

Also how can the OP of been "dating for two years" if they have never actually met this person face to face ?

What type of visa did you have along with your passport, and did you keep talking about boyfriend, at the check point instead of just keeping your mouth shut. Esp if you talked marriage, that requires other types of visas and several visits and more.

But you can just get married, but that does not provide you visa or permission to be in their country, you have to apply for visa to allow entry for the purpose of that visit.

Contact their embassy nearest you
