View Full Version : Leather chairs in sunlight

I have recently purchased a wood dining room table with full back brown leather chairs (real leather). My concern is that my dining room has large windows and direct sunlight comes into this room for most of the day. During the day the chairs get extremely warm to touch. Is this bad for them? Will the leather fade in the sun? Is there something I should be doing to prevent this? I don't want to close the blinds as we like the natural lighting in our house.

I am a professional furniture refinisher.

The sun will fade anything that has color in it. It will eventually cause leather to crack. Aside from closing the blinds during the day, you might want to cover the furniture with sheets if you do not want to close the blinds.

Leather as well as furniture conditioners can also help.

I recently purchases a leather conditioner from a "Homestyles Show" so I am going to give that a try. Thanks!
