I need to have have my single A/C unit replaced for my two-story house because the condenser in my current 3-ton Trane A/C unit broke after 19 years. I want to get a 15-seer heat pump with Acquatherm as a backup heat unit so I can get a tax credit with my current HVAC system. I got quotes for both Trane 15-seer and Amana 15-seer heat pump with variable air handler. The quote for Trane is $1,000 higher than that of Amana. The only difference between the warrancy of Trane and Amana is that Trane carries a 10-year warrancy for the condenser while Amana carries a life-time warranty for the condenser. Does Trane have a better quality than Amana? If so, how much better. Is it worthwhile to spend $1,000 extra to get a Trane unit? Thanks.

All condensers are created equal,, they all must meet a specific quality or they would be out of business . The 10 year verses the lifetime warranty should be a nobrainer, but some feel buying a label is worth the big bucks,, some companies spend their money on advertizing and some don`t,, the most important part is warranty and installation, this make a better quality unit., get referances from the installer and check them out,, do they stand behind their work as well as the Mfg. stands behind his product.
