Can NY State collect unpaid state taxes from SS benefits? … I realize that the Federal govt. can collect up to 15% of SS checks but can not collect unpaid taxes from SS form benefits under $750 … is that correct?

NY state CAN collect unpaid state taxes from Social Security benefits, but they first prove in federal court that such collections would not drop your standard of living below the poverty level.

The process would be so difficult that most states will not bother.
