I have a garden and I don't exactaly how big the cantaloupes are supposed to be. One still has the nob on the end so I don't think it's quite ready yet.

It sounds like you are not really asking how big is a ripe one, but actually, "how do you know it's ready to be picked... Here is a link to some VERY dry reading and more than I ever really wanted to know about Melons and their ripeness.

It has been my experience that cantelopes grown for size (fertilized excessively) are not as tasty as the smaller melons.
