Windows XP SP3
I have Windows Updates set for notification only.
I review each update before installing, using the Custom button.
There is one so called "High Priority Update" that I have chosen not to install, that has been tagged be me as "Hidden". (It is Update from IE7 to IE8).
But Windows keeps notifying me that I have an Update to Install.
Is there some way to set this "Hidden" update to just go away permanently and stop asking me to install it?
Thanks...

I'm not aware of any way to make the Windows Update nag message disappear once an update has had "Don't show this update again" checked, other than restoring the update to be visible, installing the update, or installing a successor to the update (e.g. IE9). I suspect there isn't a way as there needs to be an interface to enable restoration of updates to the main list - and the nag message is it.
If you have more than a couple machines to patch, Microsoft's free Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server might be of interest. Once configured, workstation machines will only install updates that have been approved for installation on the server.

It's odd because I have 2 PC's that both got the same "high priority update" message to install IE8.
On PC #1, I declined, and it is totally gone. When I hit the custom button, it doesn't even show up on the list as hidden.
But PC #2 is the one I described above. The same update is always on the updates list as "hidden", but always there. I was hoping to get rid of it somehow.
I think I just declined to install it on PC #1 and it was totally gone after that.
I wish MS would get the hint. I don't want this update!

It may depend on the version of IE that is installed. I encountered a difference in how IE8 was offered on some of the machines I manage. On some it was offered as an optional update and on others as a high priority update. The machines were in two groups having IE6 and IE7. I didn't bother to investigate for a conclusive reason.

May be wrong but I do believe that you can hide the update for the month but when MS releases their new updates every month (2nd Tues. of every month) it resets it to unhidden and is trying to still offer it to you.

I have exactly the same software and updates on both PCs.
Also, I have had this "hidden" IE8 update for several months and it hasn't yet been re-offered as a "fresh" update.
It's just that I have this giant glaring yellow "Hidden Update" warning every time I do a custom Windows Update scan on just my 2nd PC. There is nothing about it on my 1st PC that I declined to install just once.
Oh well, I can certainly live with it.
Thank You...

I've had this issue before with a few machines. The only reason I could find (by trying to get the machines to repeat the circumstances) was that some updates are tagged by being needed and you can't ignore them at all. Once they have been downloaded you have to install them. The only way to stop was the disable updating all together and just do manual updates every month or so. Which I would recommend anyway.

Thanks. I have recently switched to manual updates myself...
