I have a new Rheem Classic 90plus furnace without A/C. It's controlled by a White Rodgers programmable thermostat(1F80-224). I want to change to a non programmable and recently tried to install a Hunter heat only thermostat. The existing W/R thermostat was wired; white wire to W, green to G, red to RH, and a jumper from RH to RC. The Hunter thermostat had 4 terminal but only three were marked; R, W and G. An HVAC person told me I only needed the three but it failed to work when wired that way. I reinstalled the W/R as originally wired and it worked fine. I'm thinking of buying a W/R F86 0244 non programmable. Should I wire it the same as the existing W/R including the jumper. W/R wiring instructions don't mention a jumper from Rh to Rc--why is there a jumper installed?
Thanks
