Hello, I am 41 years old and was told by a previous doctor that I could not have children anymore. This was confirmed by fertility specialists which said there was a 5% chance with fertility drugs and 10's of thousands of dollars. My periods have been weird for years two weeks on two weeks off, then suddenly none. I thought this was weird and took a home pregnancy test which showed positive. This was confirmed by a physician. A few days later had very bad back pain and pain in the lower lobe of my left lung so I went to ER. They took blood and urine samples, and off I went for an ultrasound. The ultrasound tech tried first with a transducer but could get no readings, I guess, tech seemed annoyed. She then tried the trans-vaginal ultrasound device and this seemed to take a long time when finally she, in a very rude manner said to me "If you have had your left ovary removed please let me know" I said NO and began to panic inside. A few more minutes went by and I had asked did you find it yet, she said very rudely, "I can't tell you that" Again a few more minutes went by and she said " Oh did you mean did I find the ovary" I said yes, she said sharply, "NO" She was scaring me! Finally we were done and was given wipes to clean myself when, she seemed real mad and said "I forgot to take some measurements." She grabbed the transducer and was able to take one measurement with it and no more. She then grabbed a handful of folded sheets and asked me to lift my butt and shoved the sheets under me and proceeded again with the trans vaginal ultrasound. I was then moved back up to the room where I was before the ultrasound and waited until another person walked in who introduced them self as the ER doctor. She told us that the fetus measured 7 weeks 1 day but there was no detectable heartbeat but my HGC level was high. I don't know what to think, would love some advice. Could the ultrasound tech be wrong, where did the ovary go and why was there no heartbeat?

I am so sorry that you had to experience rude behavior. I can never understand why some people are like that, especially given the situation and for the fact that they are in a caring profession.

Certainly have your own doctor do a follow up scan. Often another will be done a week or two later when more can be seen through ultrasound. Sometimes results are only as good as the person reading them. You could be just a few days earlier then what they predict and that can make a difference sometimes in what is picked up this early in a pregnancy.

Sadly it is possible the pregnancy has ended, but hopefully it is just a bit too early to be accurate and all will be well.
