I have a 1250 sq ft brick home. I had a 3 ton unit. When I purchased a new unit I was told I would save on energy bill by getting a 2.5 ton 15 seer, which I did. However this unit just runs way too much and my energy bill is way higher than when I had the 3 ton. The unit I have is a heat pump with txv valve. Even though the instructions say tech was supposed to adjust superheat and supercool the adjustment was never made. However I am getting a 16 degree temp difference between the input air and the output from the register. There is one thing that does puzzle me though. The a coil is quite large and I was told it would work with a 2,5 or 3 ton. When I check the a-coil the coil is only wet about half way up. I thought it should be covered with moisture when properly set up. Also the amount of water coming out the drain is minor compared with the older unit. Don't know if that is significant or not. The unit does cool the house but my utility bill is killing me. Is something not adjusted properly or should I have stayed with the 3 ton. I live in north Florida.

Txv is not adjusted correctly, the bulb is not wrapped, or it has gone bad. Only 1200 sf does not hardly even require a 2 ton unit. You should have plenty of cooling if it was install right. What size is the coil? And is you unit a varable speed?? If it is it will run longer then your last unit.
