I have a older house 147yr. With cast iron piping/my kitchen sink is draining VERY VERY slow. We had a vent put in about 2yrs ago and it solved that problem. The plumber came yesterday an installed a new vent. That did not solve the problem. He then when to the attic and found no outside venting for the kitchen. What should he do?? He is thinking about taking out the cast iron and replacing it with PVC and adding another vent down stairs near the drain. Do you think that this will solve the problem?? Need Anw ASAP!!

Most likely, you have clogged kitchen drain. It has to be snaked.

You don't have to run new vent all the way through the roof: install AAV vent (check vent ) under the sink. Cost few bucks and will do the job. See the attached photo..

The drain has been snaked and is not clogged. We have the vent that is show above installed have had for about 3yrs. NOW WHAT??

I hope you can read the message above. I don't know what to do next. That is my question and my plumbers question. What do we do next. We have the vent shown, we have snaked, no clog. So what do you recommend that we do next??

AAVs can go bad. Does your sink gurgle when it's draining? Let see,
Remove the AAV and run some water in the sink. How's it drain now? Let me know. Tom

Yes my sink gurgles when it is trying to drain. I am not able to take the vent off. My plumber changed out the airvent and the problem was not solved. What do you suggest. I have another plumber coming this afternoon what should I tell him?

I have another plumber coming this afternoon what should I tell him? Since gurgles indicate a blocked vent you might ask him to check the new AAV. Ask him to Remove the AAV and run some water in the sink.to check. Good luck, Tom

Did that sink still won't drain. He is coming Thur or Fri to replace the cast iron pipe. This should take care of the problem.

Yea I want to bet!! The plumber came and took out the old cast iron pipe, replaced it with PVC. Problem SOLVED!!
I did not have a clogged drain, what I had was a total corroded pipe.
