I hope someone can help us with our plumbing problem.

We have a moen single handle tub/shower faucet. We notice that every time we turn on the tub faucet it creates a loud water gushing noise that can be heard through out the house. But whenever we switched it to shower it was fine.

I've replaced the shower valve cartridge but it did not fix problem. What causes this noise and how can it be fixed? Thanks in advance for the help.

Is your diverter on the tub spout or in the shower valve? Regards, Tom

Hi Tom...

Sorry for sending you a private message. Thanks for replying to my question. The diverter is on the tub spout. Can you think of anything that might cause the problem?

When you take a shower do you leave the diverter alone and just shut the water off to the shower? This "loud gushing noise", is it just when you turn on the tub or is it a steady noise? Back to you. Tom

Thanks for the reply Tom.

The diverter is located on the top of the tub spout. The "loud gushing noise" only occurs when the water is coming out of the tub spout. And it is steady. Once the diverter is pulled to activate the shower the noise decrease significantly.

To activate the shower we just pull the diverter normally.

I hope you have a better idea now.

It has to be something in the diverter spout that's in the way of the water coming out of the spout. If this bothers you why not just replace the spout? They're cheap and easy to replace. Regards, tom
