View Full Version : Music Television?

This is not really an important question I guess, but I am still wondering. ( I'm not even sure if anyone will have an answer.) But doesn't the "M" in MTV stand for music? Then why is the channel becoming filled with less and less music related programming? It seems to me anyway that the only time you can see music videos is late night or early morning. Throughout the day its filled with lots of junk like "Date My Mom", "Laguna Beach" or "My Super Sweet 16" wich all have nothing to do with music. So if they are Music Television, why do they keep making these non-music related shows?

See your problem is that you don't know the history of MTV. Back in the early 80's MTV ran music videos pretty close to all day and night long. Which is why it was so successful, because it was the only station doing so. Well over the years, they have found out that they could make more money by showing t.v. shows and selling commercial spots to the hugest market out there, teens. The question you brought up, is something that people have been criticizing MTV about for years.

I agree with Wizzkid,

MTV used to be all about videos and music news... but its more of teeny-bop TV now, catering its shows to teenagers. MTV has already lost the rest of its audience...

I used to LOVE MTV, and seeing Nirvana and The Offspring... *sigh* good days good days, now anyone over a mature 16 can't stand MTV... they are 'sellouts'
