January 2009, my husband was taxed in NJ and then starting in Feb 2009, he moved to another company based in NY. Now he's being taxed in NY and we live in NJ. I also work but I am being taxed in NJ. For tax year 2009, we had to file taxes in NJ and NY and owed a lot of money in Federal and even in NJ. Would this happen again for tax year 2010? AGI is over 140K, MFJ.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

Your husband must pay NY income tax on his NY-based earnings (i.e. his salary), and the two of you will pay NJ income tax on your total joint earnings, minus a credit for taxes paid to NY State. So your total tax bill for both states together should be perhaps slightly higher than when he was working in NJ. I don't understand why you owed a lot to either the Feds or NJ - for your NJ return did you take the credit for taxes he paid to NY State?
