The shower in the master bathroom won't turn off. My husband is pretty sure it is the original parts that was built with the house (mid to late 1980's). After a shower the other day, it seems like it is "popped" out from it's original position and no matter how much we turn it, it keeps running like someone is in there taking a shower. The only way to stop it (besides turning off the water to the whole house) was to prop a stick in the shower door to keep the knob pushed in. I'd rather not replace the whole thing if there is an easier (and cheaper) fix. I've done a little researching and when my husband pulled it apart the other day, if I remember correctly, I don't believe it is a cartridge but rather a seat (?) type. Yes, it's been a few days, but I'm 8 months pregnant and my husband works graveyard so most of his day is spent sleeping, like right now, so I have to wait until he gets up to get it all pulled apart.

FYI- There is no brand name visible on handle, faucet, etc.

If I am not mistaken this is a single handle shower valve and it sounds like the Cartridge is shot you need to replace the cartridge, shut the water to the house ask your husband to remove the cartridge take it to the home depot or Lowe's get a new one, and install make sure that you turn on the water for a few second to plush out any debris out of the valve prior installing the new cartridge, good luck.
