View Full Version : Yard machine won't start

We have replace the spark plug, cylinoid, new battery, oil change, the rod for the in take valve but it just doesn't seem to be getting enough power to push the rod in and out... whats wrong?? I'm at the piont where I feel like pushing it out to the trash and getting a new one, I just have a feeling it something stupid... HELP!

Make sure the valves are closing all the way. Carbon buildup or even a valve seat popping out will cause this condition. Make sure the flywheel key is still okay. Timing will do it too. I can go on and on but need more details. Motors are simple. Make sure it is getting gas, sparking at the right time (it is getting a spark, right) and the timing is right. One quick trick is to take out the spark plug and but your thumb over the spark plug hole and then turn the engine over. If it blows it out then you are probably fine and then can concentrate on fuel problems. Before you put the plug back in just connect the wire and let the plug rest on the metal and turn the motor over (with the key on) and see if you observe a spark also. If it does then put it back in and check out the carb.
