My fan does not respond to the hand held remote. I have checked the dip switches and even tried a different remote. It appears that the problem might be the receiver in the fan. If receiver is indeed the issue then where can I purchase this part? Furthermore, where can I find the instructions for replacing it? Thanks.

Read post #3 from Ceilingfanrepair https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/electrical-lighting/ceiling-fan-troubleshooting-repair-frequently-asked-questions-46738.html#post220359 Instructions are very simple once you have the new receiver. As you remove each colored wire from the old atttach them one by one to the new. You say it does not respond to the remote so this begs the question, does it respond to anything else like a wall switch or pull chain?

Thanks very much for your prompt response. Actually the wall switch only turns on the power (this works) but not the fan since the fan only turns on via the remote transmitter. Furthermore, there is no pull chain to the fan. On this fan the remote transmitter controls both its blades and light.

Before buying a new receiver and remote try testing for power in the canopy on the black and white wire feeding the receiver. Let me know what reading you get, fed side only at first. If you detect power on the fed side then test black and white on out put and blue and white output.

Actually I had a professional electrician install new switches, do some rewiring and check the power to the fan. So this portion is working well. My problem is just the fan. Thanks.

OK then but once it was installed and the elctrician finished what did he say, what did he test, was there power into but not out of the receiver?

A replacement receiver can be ordered from the manufacturer. Their number is on our sticky.

Is there a way to remove the remote all together, so that it works just like a regular fan with no remote.

Amanakar, this is a 2 year old post. Are you asking for yourself and a new situation or are you trying to help the poster who has not been here in 2 years?

Ballengerb- I was searching for this and came across this post. I was asking the question for myself.
I have a hampton bay callaway II fan. And after 5+ years, it is not working. I called them and they told me that most likely it is receiver for the remote, that is the problem. The new part is $45 + tax + Shipping.
I don't think the fan is worth that much. I was thinking if I can remove the remote altogether and use the fan from the wall switch instead. I found something on eHow.com, but the instructions are not clear enough.

It really depends on the wiring in the home and if you have a light kit, is there one and are there pull chains?

No there are no pull chains. But in my house. I have a requlator on the wall to control the speed of the fan and I also have aseparate switch for the light on the wall

OK that means you have two complete sets of wires running up to the canopy. You should be able to remove the remote and wire directly. The whites are common neutrals and can be joined with wire nuts. The power/hot for the fan is a black wire and the hot for the light should be blue but your line from the switch may also be black so tset the switches to see which is which.

Let me check that with the fan tonight. But I think the wires coming out of the receiver and going to the fan are red, Yellow and orange

OK I opened up the fan. The receiver unit has 8 wires.
1. incoming from electrical box (black)
2. incoming from electrical box (white)
3. outgoing from receiver (white)
4. outgoing from receiver (blue)
5. outgoing from receiver (pink)
6. outgoing from receiver (red)
7. outgoing from receiver (yellow)
8. outgoing from receiver (grey)
So if I disconnect and remove the receive I think Blue(4) and white(3) will connect the light.
How do I connect the fan with the remaining 4 wires #5,6,7 &8
Attached is the picture of receiver that I am removing from the fan
Any insight will be helpful

I was reading some other posts. Looks like the capacitor is in this receiver so the only way to remove it might be to rewire the whole thing.
I think I am going to buy another fan

I agree, buy new rather than try to rewire a fan is a good idea.
