A particle moves from rest and has impressed a uniform velocity of 10 meters per second parallel to one side of an equilateral triangle, and a uniform acceleration of 10 meters/sec2 parallel to an adjacent side of the triangle. Find the distance of the particle from its original position at the end of 5 seconds.

I don't understand how to do this problem I know it's solving for distance but I have no clue what it is asking in regards to the triangle. Help please?

Did you make a sketch?

This diagram should help you. The blue arrows are the acceleration broken into components, and the red arrow represent the resultant motion.

The acceleration is represented by the black double arrow, and you can see how the acceleration is acting on a side adjacent to the direction of the motion, in a right angled triangle.

Can you try it?
