A food chain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_chain) is a sequence where A eats B, B eats C, and C eats D.
For example, A hawk eats a squirrel, which ate a small lizard, which ate a spider, which ate a grub, which ate a leaf. When lots of food chains are combined, you get a food web.
Sorry I cannot translate this into sanskrit.
