We just purchased a house and in the basement there is a toilet and a sink but no bath tub. We would like to install a bathtub but do not want to jackhammer up the concret is there another way to do it?

If waste line is available and u have enough ceiling height, tub can be installed on a platform. Would have to frame platform with 2x8 beams.

Hi Dovander...

As suggested by Chuck, you can build a platform and connect into the lavatory drain pipe... IF... wet venting is allowed in your area. If wet venting is allowed in your area, then you can connect into the lavatory drain pipe and run it up to 4-5 feet off the sink drain and connect it to the tub. The lavatory vent would essentially wet vent the tub. If over 4-5 feet from the sink then you would need to run a separate vent for the tub drain and connect it into the lavatory vent pipe at about 42" off the finish floor.

You could also install a pump and run the pump dishcharge pipe over to a drain pipe, but be clear that the tub would still need to be hooked up and vented and the pump would also need a separate vent, so your next to best option here is to connect into that sink drain if possible.

Otherwise, chipping up the floor and cutting into the main sewer pipe is your best option... keeps the tub on the floor and just makes for a better all around job. We are glad to help walk you through the whole process if you like... ;)
