Sue, I checked back on my proofreading abbreviations and didn't find anything that means 'ss'. You will have to ask her what it means.

Tick,

Could it be Sentence Structure?

Or maybe Single Space ( I found this in a legal document proof reading link) EDITING AND PROOFREADING SYMBOLS (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:kUZVhWLYAJ0J:www.law.mercer.edu/academics/handouts/Editing%2520and%2520Proofreading%2520Symbols4.doc+ proofreading+abbreviation+SS&cd=9&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=mv&client=firefox-a))

I would say sentence structure. But ask your teacher to be sure. Usually, they will let you know what their own editing marks are at the beginning of the school year. We have a lot to grade and we come up with things that not everyone understands.
