View Full Version : A horrible choice for parents

In another thread, which wandered slightly off-topic (my fault though not intentional I confess), this question sort of arose:

If you were in a disaster situation and you had to choose between saving your children and saving your spouse/partner what would you do?

(this was the thread in question if anyone wants to know the original context:
https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/marriage/wife-loves-her-daughter-more-than-she-loves-me-472774.html#post2363296)

Horrible question to contemplate I know, wondering if anyone else has ever thought about this?

I hope this is the right place to put it, I don't think it's the sort of discussion that should be up for greenies or reddies.

I thought I suggested that it was a topic for discussion, not for the marriage boards. At any rate, as I posted - I realize you have posted you and your husband both agree you would save your children first, even though they are adults.

I have recently remarried. We were both widowed so maybe we come from a different place when it comes to this question but we discussed it, too, and were in agreement that we would save each other.

Like you, our children are adults.

We agreed that if the children were small/young, we would save the children first.

Who's going to save the dog?

They are going to use the dog as a life raft.

This thread reminds me of my all time favorite - one of my very best friends said to her husband, "If I would die, which one of my girlfriends would you date?" And so he told her.

And that was the beginning of a very tense time in their marriage. He kept asking (in a puzzled voice) why she was upset.

Err that's why I posted it here. Is this the wrong place? Sorry if I'm not understanding you properly or if I have made a mistake with the forum etiquette somehow. Is there a better place I should put something for discussion?
