I have a 92 Civic si. I looked at this link:
https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/cars-trucks/faq-how-troubleshoot-repair-maintain-hondas-selected-other-vehicles-46563.html

and learned about the "K test". My car fails the test, so I went online searching for replacements. I found three possibilities and I am wondering if anyone has experience with them:

Auto and Heavy Duty Computer Supply has a program to repair the ECM:

Solo Auto Electronics offers the ECM for $249.
http://www.solopcms.com/virtuemart-new-menu.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=112&category_id=5

Auto Computer Exchange also offers a rebuilt unit for $249
http://www.autocomputerexchange.com/Product/767

I have seen some very negative things about Auto Computer Exchange. In one review page, they had a very bimodal distribution- quite a few 5's but about twice as many 1's. It seems that when things go wrong, it's tough to get satisfaction.

I would be very interested in any thoughts.

Thanks!

Four years ago I developed the K-Test, in response to ECM failure in my 1993 Civic. I installed a Cardone remanufactured ECM, from O'Reilly Auto Parts, which came with a lifetime warranty. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, like me, shop for warranty and price.

Thank you TxGreaseMonkey. Reading about the K test was extremely helpful. You are correct that the lifetime of the vehicle is an important part of the question.

I don't expect to keep the car for a long time, so an expensive repair could send it to the junk yard. But my daughter could use it this summer (maybe next) while she's home from college.

In that case, check out eBay.
