I do it with my girlfriend, and we both seem to enjoy it, since we haven't seen each other in a long time. And it also seems to help our relationship. We both talk about how we would like sex to be in our future, and it does help a lot.
You think this makes us a closer couple?

Phone sex is a game. Good communication, not games, will make you a closer couple.

If you can't be together, it may be OK. Just don't confuse it for the real thing. I do think it's helpful to talk about the particulars of sex--what you like, what you'd like to try, what you don't like, what you're concerned or curious about, etc. That kind of talk seems much harder after you've started to have sex, maybe because we're afraid of offending our partner.

Its more fun to throw away the phones and turn off the lights.

I do not find this to be true. Sure it is hard to talk about sex, but it is a very personal subject. You should be open with your partner as to what you want, and find out what they want. Otherwise, you would both go on with sex, but it wouldn't be exactly what you want. Being sexually frustrated makes you irritable, and that is not healthy for the relationship. You being irritable just leads to more fights, but if you both get what you want, there is nothing wrong with that. And if you think that the person would dump you over asking an innocent little question, then they would be using that as a reason. They would have wanted it to end for some time, but just not know how to do it.

Does it make you grow closer, maybe, can it be fun, nomally.
But just talking, about all sorts of things, you opinions on religion, politics, money, budgets, children, that is what makes you draw closer

It probably doesn't hurt the relationship.
At least you guys are willing to try it.
