I forgot my keys into the accessory position on the ignition overnight. After 14hours I tried starting the car and it wouldn't start. I tried jumping the car, and at first we got some beeping sounds but the car wouldn't start. We tried it a second time and got the beeping sound again but no start.

We decided to take the battery to a mechanic to charge it up, which we did and we proceeded to put it back into the car. This time, however, there was no sound or anything. The car is completely dead now.

We tried switching the battery fuse in the fuse box under the hood, in addition to testing all the fuses inside the car on the driver's side. None of this has helped it so far.

Where should we go next before we need to tow it to a mechanic?

Thanks.

. Install a new battery.

. Clean battery terminal and cable connections. Closely examine the battery cables for internal corrosion. Clean the main ground.

. Test all under hood and under dash fuses with a test light or multimeter:

. Check the ignition switch for wear, pitting, or melting. Remove the negative battery cable, before working on the ignition switch.

My bet is that installing a new battery will solve the problem.
