I was forced into signing a promissory note from my former job. I was taken into the managers office with him and a loss prevention authoritative figure. They accused me of stealing thousands of dollars from their company and said that they had video evidence to prove I was guilty. I admit I took snacks occasionally from the company but no where near the amount they were accusing me of. They told me if I signing a promissory note that I would still be able to keep my job. After which they fired me, now they still demand that I pay the money that I didn't steal. Is there anything that I can do... this entire situation just doesn't seem fair.

Hello b:

It's not fair. They just stole more from you than you did from them. Maybe if you didn't steal in the first place, you wouldn't have signed the note.

You by signing their note just screwed yourself. You can't take back the note either. Why would you even think of signing a note when you didn't take the money? Something is not right here.

Just don't pay, let them sue you in court for a judgement and merely tell the judge you did not steal that much and was forced into signing.

That is really your choice, you either pay, or refuse to pay and let them take legal action
