We have a ducane gas furnace that has blown cool air ever since it was installed, which has been for at least 5 years now. The past owner of this house has covered the only cold air return in our living room floor and we have since opened or created a cold air return in the basement for the time being, which didn't do any good for making the house warmer, the temp. of the air through the registers is still cool. The location of the covered cold air return is not the ideal spot, but because money is tight, I'm willing to re-open the return in trade for possibly warm air, finally. This house is small and should easily be heated. It is about 900/1000 sq. ft. and was built in the 40's and has no insulation in the walls, so whatever warmth we get from the furnace or space heaters, escapes a lot more quickly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Other than the cold air returns, what else might I look for that might be the culprit ? Well,I would say first of all, do you know for sure that the furnace is firing? The number of cold air returns really shouldn't affect the temperature of the output air from a heat duct. Its also possible that your limit switch needs adjusted so the blower doesn't turn on as early

The more ducts you cover or restrict the hotter the air will be from the furnace, at least until the main limit trips because it got too hot.

I suggest you check your duct system for a disconnected pipe or something that is losing all of the air into the attic.
