I am a 35 year old ex-con who has been out of work for almost two years due to the rough economy in the midwest. I was convicted of armed robbery 15yrs ago and I am going back to college this fall, but I want to know what are some of the best majors for an individual with my background?

I want to know what are some of the best majors for an individual with my background?Hello Dad:

I can't tell what to do. I can only tell you what you can't do. In most situations, you can't hold a professional license. That means you can't be a lawyer, CPA, doctor, nurse, stock broker, or an office holder. There's others, but you get my drift...

Last I checked, businessmen or entrepreneurs don't need licenses. That's how I put bread on the table.

You can become a lawyer with a felony. If you check with the licensing board, it will give you a breakdown of requirements per state. Some states will automatically deny a felon; however, several will still consider your application if you have proven yourself in the community and through school. Other states, such as Texas, will approve your licensing application five years after completing your probation, prison, etc. Five years is perfect considering it takes approximately seven years to become a lawyer anyway.

On top of what others posted as far as jobs for felons, the tuition which is a major hurdle for us ex felons (regardless of the crime) is , take advantage of the reality craze, get published ! American Viewers are climbing hand over fist to watch, read or listen to a good old fashion hard-luck-story ! Think about it .
