I have a Hitachi 50DX01BA
REMOTE: Works fine, but I can not get any of the display to show up. Ch. vol. display for t.v settings.
Removed batteries, changed them, turned t.v off (over night) have pressed all buttons, still can not get any of the settings to show up on screen!
Thank in advance for any and all input on this matter!!

This is a long-shot, but perhaps the Menu button is the only button that does not work. Try pressing it down hard (and maybe even rocking your finger from side to side) to clean the contact area. If you're lucky, the menu screen will pop up.
I've had remotes in the past on which some buttons would not work. I've taken them apart and cleaned the conductive rubber buttons as well as the gold-plated circuit board. This usually works, but I cannot recommend this procedure to others due to the high likelihood of causing more problems than you started with.
Best of luck,

Thanks for the quick reply. Lucky I have a back ground in computer technician and might get lucky. That does not mean the likely-hood of messing up things. Lol.
I have tried all the pushing down hard and rocking, in fact it was one of the first things I did. Just with my history in electronics I know that rubber mounted push pads can go bad and or get misaligned.
Next step I will try the take apart method and try cleaning the contacts.
All went dead, the channel, clock.menu and everything else including the volume. Nothing shows up on the screen.
Thanks again for the quick reply and I will post my results.
Lucky I have a few universal remotes I can try it that does not work

I think I might have mis-understood the original problem. My original reading was that you just couldn't get the menus to come up on the screen. After your reply (and a re-read of the original problem), I now think that you're saying the remote does control things like channel and volume, but you get no indication on the screen (text-wise, that is) even though the channel or volume do change.
If this is the situation, I would be pessimistic about the problem being in the remote. There is probably some OSD (On-Screen Display) logic or hardware in the TV itself that has a problem. This will be more difficult to fix. Since TVs today are essentially computers with a big screen, there are numerous ways for things to go wrong. Hopefully your background will be helpful.
Good luck!
