Hi, I am 28 years old. For several years now I have been completely drained of all energy. I have tried vitamins, energy drinks, caffeine, exercise. You name it. Recently I have been experiencing a lot of depression and anxiety as well. It takes me a good hour or two to fall asleep and when I wake up I'm more exhausted than when I went to bed. Even standing tires me out All I can think about is when I can go back to bed. My mother has mentioned a possible hormone or thyroid issue. Could this be the problem
Or is there anything that could be causing this?

Lots of things can be the cause. In today's world the first thing to look at is stress. Also look at your diet. Are you getting enough iron in your system? Another possibility is that your overextending yourself. Kids, spouses, work, balancing the world on your shoulders.

Have you have a decent check up lately? Also careful about eating or drinking caffine near bedtime. Stay away from sweet snacks. See if that helps.

Late last summer I had no energy, no appetite, and was tired all the time, even after a full night's sleep. It turned out I was anemic, with a hemoglobin count of 5.8 (it should have been 12.0). Ask your doctor about this and maybe getting your hemoglobin level tested. There could be more than one thing wrong.

hope you are feeling better now!
I am -- thanks! I was given three units of blood and sent home with the order to take a daily iron tablet. My hemoglobin level is now better than normal! Don't tell my son and husband because I don't want to discourage them from washing the dishes and doing the laundry and scooping cat litter.

Very, very seldom is my first choice referral to a doctor, but with the array of complaints you mention + duration + progression + your age, a thorough exam and lab workup seems the only way to get a quick and definitive answer. It could be anything. Hopefully there's a simple solution.

I got to reserve my energy, you know. There are lots of books to read and cats to snuggle with.

I can totally relate to you. I've been like this since at least 2007. They have checked my adrenal, a blood test. It's low the highest it's been is 2.5. and as low as 1.2. It should be 5-10 I think. Anyway I have slept as long as 16 hours in a day. And still woke up tired. They gave me a stress test and I could only stay on it for 2 minutes. No heart problems just was breathing too hard. Like you said exhausted. Lately its been about a month I quit drink caffine and at lest when I get up I can do some stuff. Look up Addisons diease and see if any of the symptoms match yours. I get dizzy at times and at times my heart flutters. That could be part of low aderenal. I'm 51 jjust to let you know. Let me know what the find when you go to a doctor. Good luck !

I think you need to visit the doctor and get a total lab workup. There are so many things out there that could cause your problems.

I was on a website that indicated there could be 3031 causes of fatigue. Some are quite simple, but some are serious, so I wouldn't put off making an appointment with the doctor.

Will a basic blood test find a thyroid or adrenal problem? I went to the doctor for a physical (he looked in my mouth and took blood, that's it) and he really pushed the idea that I was depressed without really asking any in depth questions. He seemed to be so focused on the depression that I'm concerned he will refuse to look any further.

Are you experiencing any muscle pain along with the fatigue? I have fibromyalgia and my first symptoms was exactly as you describe.

Think you really need to go see a doctor and have some lab work done. There are MANY things that have fatigue as a symptom.

Yes, but I have an extremely active job with long hrs. I have recently seen a doctor and am waiting for the results. He seemed very reluctant to do anything but diagnose it as depression. I was just wondering if I should have asked for anything in particular in regards to the blood test.
