Remote control for my ceiling fan has stopped working. I installed a new battery but still does not work. It is a hand held remote. Cannot find a manufacturer's name anywhere on the fan or the remote. The wall switch is now turning the light in the fan on and off but nothing else works. HeLP

With a wall switch and a remote the wall switch must be left on 24/7 for the remote to ever work. Does the little red light on the hand held light up when you press a button? Open the back of the hand held and move all dip switches to eoither on or off, do the same inside the canopy of the receiver. Any change?

Yes the wall switch is on. It did go off when we had a power outage and then the remote didn't work until I flipped the wall switch on and off a hundred times! Red light does come on but nothing. Tried the internal switches as per your suggestion and nothing. If the other switches are IN the ceiling light, I give up. Can I get a new romote to work??

Do not buy a new remote just yet. Open the wall switch and put a tester on the wires. Tell us if there is but one wire entering the switch box and one leaving, no other wires present

There are 2 wires connected to the switch box with screws. The wires are both black and rather thick. The wall swutch will turn on the light on the fan but nothing else.

Have you reset the little dip switches in the remote and receiver?

Receiver is inside the canopy mounted to the ceiling. They both have to match do do anything

I cannot open the ceiling fan or get it down from the ceiling by myself. That is why I was wondering if I just bought a new remote, would it work?

If you bought a new remote it will comes with its own receiver and you'd have to open the canopy to install the new one. You can not buy a new hand held and get it to work with the old receiver

Does the fan have pullchains?
